When Midge Marten and her fellow bird enthusiasts in the Lakewood Birding Club go birding in Chambers Creek Canyon in the South Puget Sound, they stumble across a body hidden in a shallow cave. Fearing her homeless son might be involved, Midge recruits the help of Wade Williams, a retired dentist, to discover the killer's identity before the police arrest her son. Midge's knowledge of Pacific Northwest birds and their habits eventually help her to solve the mystery. Shel Arensen lives in Naivasha, Kenya, where he birds along the Malewa River, regularly spotting paradise flycatchers, giant kingfishers and cinnamon-chested bee-eaters. He started writing this book on a short trip to the USA where he joined the Audubon Society in Tacoma, Washington with his daughter Malindi, going on guided bird walks and doing backyard bird counts in the area. Book 2 in this Field Guide to Murder series will be set in the Naivasha area, when the Lakewood Birding Club travels to East Africa on a birding safari.
