There are 51 parks, reserves and sancturies in Kenya. The Kenya Wildlife service(KWS) employs 5000 staff to look after these areas. There are 7 chapters:-
(1) Deals with history of Kenya and the coming of europeans and asians and the making of Kenya.
(2) Great Rift Valley: This is called Leakey or Gregory country. From Ngong hills, the rift valley is visible, to the south is Magadi lake producing soda. Lamuru is 3000ft higher than Nairobi. longonot volcano 9109 ft westwards towards Naivasha. there are many volcanos and lakes (fresh- Naivasha and baringo) and (alkaline- elementeita,nakuru and bogoria)in the rift valley. At Timboroa(equator) is kenya's highest road 9500ft.
(3)Kenya's West Country:- towards south west is the famous Maasai Mara Reserve. Most of the west is farming area with tea at Kisii and Kericho. Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa.
(4) Deserts of kenya:- To the north are pokot, turkana and samburu tribes. Rivers are dry and temperature can be 40c. There are more volcanos and lake Turkana (Rudolf)( 289 km long and 56 km wide), has 12,000 nile crocodiles. Kaisut, chalbi and Koroli deserts are to the north (plains of darkness).
(5) Mountain Greenery:- There is the Aberdare range,Liakipia valley full of coffee and tea plantations. Then there is Kipipiri (happy valley), mount Kenya range and some waterfalls like Thomson's, Chania and Gura. "The Queen's gift of Sagana Game Lodge is now Presidential State Lodge". Mt Kenya (white mountain) is kikuyu's secret mountain.
(6) Elephant Country:- Best place to see them is at Amboseli and Tsavo East National Parks. In Tsavo East ,you can see "pink elephants".
(7) Coral Coast:- Kenyan beech has over 50 hotels, beautiful beech with temperature over 37c. Big Game fish thrive in Kenyan waters. Mombasa is Kenya's oldest settlement. Lamu is ideal base for boat safari.
