1958, SOUTHWEST AFRICA. Etienne Marais has planned a hunting trip in the veld. Their prey-Bushmen. After they track down a San family fleeing through the scrubland, Etienne is wounded in the shooting of the parents; the terrified child is dragged back with the hunters to ensure her silence. But, while Etienne's wife mourns his worsening condition, his sister-in-law, Marta, slips away with the orphaned girl.Breaking apartheid law, Marta raises Koba, who is quick to learn 'white' ways in her new family, as her own. A playful teenage friendship develops between Koba and the family's son Mannie, as they trade each other's different experiences - jive dancing for bushcraft, salt for honey. But, caught somewhere between the two worlds, Koba is in more danger than she could have imagined.
